We had such a blessed time worshipping at Secret Place last night in Dawsonville, GA! Secret Place is a group of young folks in the Dawsonville area who started gathering to pray and worship together, and now it has turned into a group of Jesus-loving people, discipling each other, and reaching those around them. It was an honor to get to spend some time worshipping with them, and Brad shared a message on Creation.
I was pondering on the scripture that “Secret Place” comes from:
Psalm 91:1-16 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most HighShall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowlerAnd from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers,And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side,And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look,And see the reward of the wicked. Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you,Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you,To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up,Lest you dash your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra,The young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot. “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him;I will be with him in trouble;I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him,And show him My salvation.”
For the sake of not writing a ridiculously long post, just read and ponder on this scripture a bit. There is a reason that God wants us to “dwell in the secret place”. First of all, He knows we need it and can’t truly survive without it. As a worship leader, I have always felt very strongly about my private quiet time spent with The Lord on a daily basis…it is vital…and not optional if I want to actually lead people into the Presence of God in worship. It is a fearful responsibility we have to stand in battle on the front lines of war as worshippers…and we must be equipped to do so. What I’ve learned over the years is that the preparation doesn’t just coming in the practice of our instruments, the “ability” to lead people well, or the authority in our voices…it comes from the secret place. It comes from being in the shelter of His covering, and not wanting to rush away from it. We get ready by learning to stay in His Presence, and to realize that we are defenseless and powerless without the protection of the Most High God!
I could write on this for hours, but I’ll close saying this:
I’ve sadly seen many worship leaders, pastors, and leaders stand so “humanly strong” but “spiritually defenseless”…and while they are easily taken out by the enemy, so the rest of their army suffers and falls as a result. The secret place isn’t to be taken lightly, especially for us leaders. Peoples lives are at stake.
Get in the secret place!
